Those that need luxury sedan should take into consideration the 2017 Mercedes C-Class that might belong to the entry level of sedan segment, but the equipment it offers is quite impressive. A new generation has been introduced with 2015 model, so we are sure that only minimal upgrades will come with the one we have here.
The current C-Class has been launched back in 2014 as 2015 model and it is Mercedes’ first car to use their all-new modular platform. Since then, this platform has been applied to the S Class as well as the all new E Class. This also means that unlike its predecessors, the new C-Class is nearly just as good to drive as the larger sedans as well as similarly comfortable. On top of that, it is cheaper to make so Mercedes had the chance to spend the extra development money on the way the car drives and handles.
2017 Mercedes C-Class Price
While it is a relatively new car, a new model is on track for with 2017 Mercedes C-Class Coupe, a car which is set to introduce on the market a new body style as well as a differently tuned chassis. This also represents the biggest change in the lineup, but we will stick to a standard sedan version that is the topic of this review. The release date for this car has been set for mid-summer of 2016. The price is still unknown but considering there will be almost no changes we expect everything to stay on similar level. The price of the sedan starts at about $39,000 and goes all the way up to almost $50,000 if you opt to get the most powerful version with AMG badge. Full price list can be found in the table after this review.
The new platform of the C Class means that it lost up to 220 pounds over the previous W204 model making it more agile, more efficient and better in the performance segment. Regarding design, the car is now a lot more stylish, but this is not necessarily a good thing. While most people like the design of the car, it is nearly identical to the E and S Class cars which are disappointing, especially for those that are looking to buy the larger sedans. The 2017 Mercedes C-Class is expected to keep its design language pretty much the same as before. The biggest change is that it will be available with a new Sport package which will add, even on the base models, a new front bumper with larger grilles, a blacked out grille, new Xenon headlights as well as a new rear bumper with twin exhaust tips. These should make it a slightly sportier-looking car than its larger siblings and it should give those who don’t want to spend too much on the car a design option.
Inside the cabin, the new C-Class comes nearly identical to the ongoing model that was recently redesigned meaning that it will not inherit the two-screen dashboard design of its larger siblings. One of the upgrades that might be offered includes LCD screen behind the wheel to display information’s and will come as a replacement for analogue dials. This might simply happen because something similar was announced for the Coupe version and there are no reasons why not to bring something like this to a sedan.
The level of refinement in the cabin is on an exceptional level. We are getting the highest quality of materials, and even base models offer comfort that we rarely see from other car makers. Real wood and aluminum accents give it premium look while almost all surfaces that you can touch are covered with high-quality leather. As soon as you sit in this vehicle, no matter if you are a driver or only occupant, it will feel like its surrounding everyone with the best possible and highest quality materials. Center segment of dashboard brings a large 7-inch display and 8.4 inches if you choose COMAND Online package, this feature will be noticed immediately. Furthermore features like head-up display, a touchpad controller, heated and ventilated front seats, power seats with memory, keyless entry and a lot more.
Engine wise, the 2017 Mercedes C-Class will use same engine lineup like with the previous model. This includes 2.0 liter turbocharged engine in C300 version that delivers 241 hp and is capable of returning 25/34 mpg. Second in the lineup of turbocharged gasoline units is the 3.0 liter V6 turbo that comes in C450 AMG model. This powerplant is capable of delivering impressive 362 hp while returning 21/29 mpg.
Those drivers that want their luxury sedan with hybrid technology can choose 2017 Mercedes C-Class in C350e trim. The hybrid powertrain that is used here includes 2.0 liter four cylinder turbo unit and electric motor. Turbocharged engine pumps out 208 hp while the electric motor adds 80 hp for a total of 275 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque. TA lithium-ion battery pack of 6.2 kWh on this plug-in hybrid is enough for about 18.6 miles, at least that is what car maker from Germany says. This will also be the best version if you want to improve fuel economy and reports suggest it will return 35/40 mpg which is quite impressive for a luxury sedan of this size.
