2017 Ford GT Price And Top Speed

Side

The GT is an iconic name for Ford which was first used back in the 1960s for their racing cars that managed to beat Ferrari cars at their own game, and it is time for them to return it to the market with 2017 Ford GT. Back in the early 2000s, they released the GT40, which was a modern representation of the original that was not as successful as Ford hoped.

They are now trying once again to release a new GT model, but unlike the car released more than a decade ago, this new car would be just that, an all-new car that would share little to nothing with the original racing car. In fact, the 2017 version is one of the most impressive supercars out there and even though they did not make it available for sale just yet there are a lot of people wanting one.

2017 Ford GT Price

At first, many thought that Ford would sell their GT for around $100,000 which would have been really impressive and not that realistic considering the GT is a fully carbon fiber car that uses the same technology found in some of the today’s racing cars. In fact, it seems that the upcoming GT will cost more than $400,000, and Ford is expected to make as little as 400 units. This would make it a very exclusive car and it would certainly allow Ford to develop further on its success and apply improved tech solutions on a further model.

Just as we mentioned, the chassis of the 2017 Ford GT is basically a carbon fiber tub with carbon fiber body elements. The suspension is made out of a combination of high strength steel and aluminum while the car’s wheels are made out of lightweight forged alloy. This allows Ford to make a car that weighs less than 3,000 pounds which is very impressive in this day and age, especially when compared to similar vehicles in the segment.

Engine

For powering this monster, there is a newly developed 3.5 liter EcoBoost V6 which has been built on the basis of their current engine lineup. However, Ford said that this is basically an entirely new engine with new internal components as well as new turbochargers which should be enough to allow it to develop more than 600 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque. The more impressive feat here is that Ford already announced that this engine will not be aided by any electric motors, so the car will provide a rather classic experience.

Top Speed

The gearbox used in the upcoming GT is a seven-speed dual clutch automatic which will send all of its power to the rear wheels. In order to help it put the power to the ground, the car also benefits from an electronic differential. We expect it to get to 60 MPH in around 3 seconds and get up to a maximum top speed of over 220 MPH.

While the engine in this new hypercar is certainly impressive, its exterior is a lot more impressive than that. While many manufacturers are getting inspiration from the aeronautic industry, they actually used aeronautic technology on the 2017 Ford GT. The car features two large flying buttresses on the sides which channel air towards its intercoolers while the air used to cool its brakes is exhausted through the mid of its tail lights. The car also uses active aerodynamic features such as a large rear wing and a front splitter allowing it to remain stable on high-speed runs and very agile in corners.

Interior

Inside the cabin, while the GT is very impressive as well, it only offers the basic features such as Ford’s Sync 3 infotainment system and a climate control unit. There are just two carbon-fiber seats in order to save weight as well as a small yet very nice-looking steering wheel. Also, instead of offering a conventional instrument cluster, the GT will only be available with a fully digital and customizable cluster that will feed the driver all the information it needs.

Conclusion

There are many great supercars on the market, and Ford will have a lot of trouble with various Ferraris, Lambos, McLarens and similar. What you are getting from this U.S. car maker is the unique and completely different looks, all packed in a body that is a true successor of an iconic GT model. One thing that we do not like is the price, if Ford really decides to bring it with $400,000 tag it will be interesting to see how it will cope with models like Ferrari 458, Lamborghini Huracan, McLaren 650s and similar that cost between $200,000 and $280,000 and offer similar amounts of power.
